Stone

Stone is the first building material ever used, its source is minerals from the earth and each stone reveals millions of years of history engraved in its texture. Stone is a natural concretion, a solid aggregate of one or more mineral(s), such as granite. Stone inspires us greatly and we delight in using these natural minerals in our projects. Ideally, we repurpose stone from the actual site and allow for the material to become part of the new-built structure. This creates a design that truly belongs to the site.

Featured project

For House St John’s Higgoville, stone was mined from the site on the flank of Table Mountain and was hand cut and carefully laid by skilled masons to create a retaining wall and plinth for the double storey house that was designed to maximally enjoy the stunning City Bowl and harbour views from the elevated site. This house is a perfect example of how we like to build with stone.
