House De Wet 50 Bantry Bay

This Bantry Bay home was built on a steep site between the rocky slopes of Lions Head and the azure Atlantic below for a couple who resides overseas. It is designed to be a base to enjoy life, to entertain and to take in the outstanding surroundings. This 1000 m² house is arranged over five levels with the emphasis on providing a luxurious lifestyle while remaining in touch with nature. The top 3 levels were designed and built in 2002 and the lower 2 levels were added on a few years later. Both the original house and the expansion were designed by KMMA.

The entrance level of the house is dedicated to the function of expansive living and entertaining, and the magnetic panoramic views of sea and shoreline draw you in effortlessly. The vertical connection and circulation through the levels of the house is accomplished through means of either elevators or the sculptural stainless steel staircase.

A state of the art glass and gloss laminate finish Italian Eurocasa kitchen is located open plan to the TV area. It allows functional cooking as well as culinary entertainment. The full height walnut and sandblasted glass sliding screens pocket away to provide flow or privacy from the living area as the occasion requires.

Above the living area is an expansive master bedroom suite complete with its own private lounge, dual dressing room and breathtaking bathroom which all enjoy incredible and unobstructed views.

Below the main living level is another full level comprising four individually designed guest en-suite bedrooms each opening onto their own expansive balcony area to permit maximum exposure to the sea views. Each guest bedroom has been designed to have unique individualized features.

The lowest two floors of this home are accessed by a separate elevator and stair which take one down into a world of luxury where a double volume space hosts a sublime private area where pleasure takes precedence: a Jacuzzi, steam room and TV lounge on the mezzanine overlook a linear timber deck area leading onto a 12,5 metre heated lap pool. Below the deck, a secluded gym area is located.

The palette of materials used throughout the house are all organic in nature to reflect the natural raw qualities of the site. These include African slate tiles on the driveway,  Balau decking, travertine tiles and walnut timber.
